My second day was to explore the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque that located in Abu Dhabi, the capital. It is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) and the eight largest mosque in the world. This grand mosque have a significant knowledge from the external to internal building. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was opened for worship in 2007. This great landmark, featuring four minarets and eighty-two domes, representing different Islamic styles, in support of noble Islamic cultural values, and to express its genuine religious concepts and values.

The mosque accommodates more than 40,000 worshippers; 10,000 in the internal areas and 30,000 in the external areas. There were more than 38 contractors and thousands of workers involved with completing various elements of the structure and decoration. Materials were also sourced from many countries including Greece, Italy, Germany, China, Austria, India and New Zealand. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is well known for its diverse Islamic architecture and pure white colour. White marble clads the external walls and columns and features relief carving of verses from Holy Quran and Islamic ornamentation. (Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre 2012)

The main prayer hall houses the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet. The intricate Islamic medallion design was made by third generation carpet maker and artist, Dr. Ali Khaliqi. The predominantly wool carpet was hand-crafted by approximately 1,200 artisans. Its creation was a two year project, the design took approximately 8 months, the knotting 12 months and the remaining time to transport, trim and weave the pieces together. The final single piece carpet is 5,700 square meters, about 70% being wool and the rest of 30% is cotton.

Today, we will have the Lebanese foods for dinner but in overall, the food in my opinion wasn't suitable to our Asian taste even thought it seem to be nice. Along the trip in Dubai, the best and easy meal is the international buffet to make you feel full. Furthermore, Kaleidoscope Restaurant, Atlantis The Palm is one I had tried for lunch.
